STICK SHIFT: What are your best tips / advice for learning to drive a manual transmission?

I'm just learning, and I'm wondering what your best advice is!

Please add advice for reversing, driving on highway, driving in traffic, or just getting started, plus more.....STICK SHIFT: What are your best tips / advice for learning to drive a manual transmission?
nothing can be more sexier than a lady driving a stick.

hit the clutch first and change the gear

2nd gear at 2000 rpm

3rd gear at 3500 rpm

4th gear at 4000 rpm

this is only if you are flooring the car.

if u wanna reverse, then put it in r.

and the neutral is always the center.

if you are casually driving it just to get from a to b, then its totally different.STICK SHIFT: What are your best tips / advice for learning to drive a manual transmission?
Here are my three pieces of advice:

a) Although some people believe that the fullest driving experience can only be achieved by being fast and aggressive, I believe it can best be achieved by being gentle and smooth;

b) Excellence in driving, like many things in life, demands an approach which is primarily psychological not physical;

c) As a great philosopher once noted, ';The harder we try, the worse we play.';
in this day and age, dont. i tried for along time and didnt get it i practiced in parking lots first,
Getting started:

Before turning the engine on, step on the clutch pedal, put the stick shift on neural position, be sure that the hand brake is engaged. In going forward, always start from gear 1, disengage the hand brake and slowly release the clutch with your right foot slightly gasing up. If the RPM hits 1,500 or higher, step on the clutch and shift to gear 2 then slowly release the clutch. and so on and so forth. In coming to stop, shift to the lower gear until reaching the first gear before stoping. In backing up, check your side and rear view mirrors, then slowly release the clutch to half only with your right foot steady on the gas. the left foot should control the speed by depressing or releasing the clutch pedal while backing up with the right foot ready to pivot from gas to brake pedals and vice versa. Keep practicing, practice makes perfect. Good Luck!
just practice. i learned stick on my dad's two speed rear end, five speed transmission (total of 10 speeds) dump truck with little assistance.

it's really easy to do. The hardest part is learning how fast to let the clutch out. this all depends on what kind of car you have.
