do you have a Cycle Gear ,store near you ~ i got a great one on clearance for 50 bucks , another great place is Helmut shop .comWHy are motorcycle helments so expensive?Im female and i just bought a sport bike and i need advice for?
A popular motorcyclist magazine whose name I forgot rated cheap helmets and expensive helmets. The said that the DOT rating was the determining factor not price. The $50 DOT rated helmet protected just as well as the $1000 DOT rated one.

Snell had differeing criteria that the magazine thought weren't really applicable, but if a helmet has a SNELL rating then it is just as good as another SNELL rated one regardless of price.

I bought my helmet based on 1. Price and Manufacturer.

I found three DOT helmets using Google for less than $100.00. I went to the local store to find my head size by trying helmets on. I then bought the helmet that fit according to where it was made. The maker is in Washington state.

If you want to try before you buy, I'd recommend Cycle Gear.

If you visit a dealer to buy accessories, shop around ALOT.
To be quite honest. Yes you do pay for safety and the most expensive are better but with industry standards etc the biggest difference is comfort, weight and sound. The sub 拢100 helmets will protect you but will not be as plush as the arais and shoeis. Good boots and protective clothes. Personally im very into good solid gloves and cant understand people who dont wear them. The hands are the first thing that touches down in a crash and if they arnt protected. Put this way, with a broken leg you dont need to ask a friend to wipe your bum.

If youre not into dayglo posing gear youll get stuff cheap, besides real bikers spend the money on tyres and trackdays not on designer leathers for the street corner. Next time your out look at all the virgin knee sliders and the untouched edges of the tyres.
helmet- make sure its DOT and snell certified and comfortably fits- its expensive b/c its what is gong to prevent your skull from getting crushed or your face getting rubbed off when you dump your bike(when not if)

jacket- make sure it has armor on the contact points and it has a snug fit, you dont want it bunching up the way a loose bathing suit does around your feet after a dive into the water

gloves- again make sure they fit right and try to get the kevlar ones thats what i wear

boots- DONT wear tennis shoes when riding its great way to mess up your feet and the shifter tears through street shoes pretty quickly
check at cyclegear.com they have some of the best prices on riding gear ,I bought my Joe Rocket jacket there for $100.00 on clearance and my KBC full face helmet only ran me $150.00 ,Frank Thomas gloves ran me around $50.00 ,so if there is a cycle gear store by where you live go in and see what they have they are always having a sell I almost bought a second KBC full face helmet there for $80.00 on a clearance sell ,and most KBC helmet's are DOT and Snell approved
I order all of my stuff from http://motorcycle-superstore.com ...My helmet was $95, my gloves were $35, and my jacket, with armour, was $80...Plus free shipping. Plus if by accident or mistake you ordered wrong size, they will exchange it, no problems. Also I bought a helemt that was defective, 2 times...they took care of it...I highly reccommend them. They also have some awesome female riding gear. Go there and check out the ICON GO GO Bombshell stuff. You will probably like it ( http://motorcycle.motorcycle-superstore.鈥?/a> ) The things are a bit $$$, but your girl friends will hate you, the guys will love you :P What kind of bike do you got?
whaT'S YOUR BRIAN WORTH?

Spend as much as you need to and research it online to get the best head protection that money can buy.

May not seem important now, but when you're sliding down the highway headed for a tree, you won't be thinking about how you saved money on a cheap helmet.
stick whit leather stuff not nil on leather jacket gloves helmet its what fits u best try some helmets before u buy don't just go on-line the helmet has to fit right boots its something very important and if u have the extra get a back protector go on sportbikers.net for more info if u want cheap stuff go on craigslist.com
if you wanna be really safe. theres pants and boots.

helemt is the most important part. aslo just make sure there saftey approved because there is usually diffrence by name

and added features

like ventalation, noise... and so forth.
There are some fully certified helmets that are very affordable. Just make sure what you get is dot and snell certified and fits you well, a $600 helmet isn't 6x better...maybe 10% better if that. Shop around.
you can't put a price on safety

take it from a girl who was on the back of a bike that broadsided a car

i still got hurt but not as bad as it could have been
Because they protect your brain. So use them, and pay the money. And don't buy a helmet you can't try on. Its you head.

Do you know what EMS calls no-helmet riders? Organ donors.
do you want to cheap out on the single most important piece of safety equipment you'll need?

if you want a cheap helmet, go on ebay there are cheap dot helmets on there.... i wouldn't.... but i'm not cheap
If you have a $9.95 head, then buy a $9.95 helmet. I chose to pay a little more for mine, thank you.
$10 helmets are for $10 heads............

mine cost me $700 Australian dollars..

but I think my heads worth it..
KBC modular helmet is good bang for the buck.

Wear boots that cover your ankles. NON steel toe.
Ummm, boots.
